What Is Qumageltharp?

Qumageltharp is a word that was invented by Donald Raleigh to describe a concept in eCommerce as a replacement for the word widget.

According to Merriam-Webster (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/widget), a widget is an unnamed article considered for purposes of a hypothetical example. For most examples of widgets in relation to commerce a widget takes up physical space, must be stored, shipped, moved, built, and all other forms of examples of commerce-related activities.

A qumageltharp, on the other hand, takes up no physical space, is not subject to scarcity, does not degrade over time and yet may be used in commerce, specifically eCommerce. Think about describing a file format, such as a .mp3. This .mp3 may be for sale on a site but the purchase of one does not deplete the inventory of that .mp3.

As the .mp3 is sold a copy is made available to the buyer. When another sale is made this same .mp3 is made available to the new buyer in the same condition as the first, thus creating a buying cycle that does not rely on a scarcity model.
